2026 ABLE account contribution limit increase to $20,000

By Eva M. Luchini, JD

Good News!   The annual contribution limit for an ABLE account will now be $20,000 in 2026 (instead of $19,000!  And if the account owner is earning wages, there is an even greater limit!  Get more information about ABLE accounts at  www.washingtonstateable.com or  www.ablenrc.org.

Remember that for those under Conservatorship (formerly called Guardian of the Estate), here in Clark County, the court requires a lay guardian (family member/nonprofessional) to be bonded for assets under their control over $3,000.  That means paying for a bond and likely being required to have attorney representation for reports submitted to the Court.    You may want to consider a pooled trust account with the Washington State Endowment Trust Fund instead of an ABLE account if there is a Conservatorship in place.    www.ddetf.wa.gov

I hope this is helpful information!
